Day 2. Entering New England

Mile 1455.7 – Wiley Shelter to Mile 1465.2 – Schaghticoke Mountain Campsite

We enjoyed the sunrise from our tent this morning and finished our chores before heading out. The trail is marked periodically with white blazes, typically painted on trees. Rocket really focused on them today, noting blazes that were old and faded or those with paint drips. My favorite moment of the day was when, after several hours of this, she paused at one particularly perfect example and declared “that is a well made blaze.”

We stopped in at a shelter for lunch and met a person doing trail maintenance there. Rocket pitched in by retrieving some trash from a small opening under the floor. She was the perfect size to fit.

Entering the New England Section

We crossed our first state line into Connecticut! It was a good opportunity to reflect on our trip so far and set some goals for the next state.
