Day 27. Rutland

Mile 1704 – Rutland To Mile 1712 – Stoney Brook

After a leisurely breakfast at the inn, we packed up our backpacks and stashed them in a storage area they have set up for hikers. We caught a bus out front which took us into Rutland where we stopped at Walmart for a quick resupply and then Subway for lunch, making sure to order extra for dinner tonight.

When we returned to the inn, Rocket found a note attached to her backpack from the owner asking her to make sure to sign the guest book before leaving. They have these books going back to the 70’s filled with guests who were through hiking the LT and AT. In all that time, he could remember only one other hiker younger than Rocket. We chatted with him for a while before leaving and he was super encouraging to Rocket.

Inn at Long Trail

We were back on the trail by 2:00, but only had eight miles planned for the day so we had our tent set up well before dark and enjoyed a rain-free evening!
