Day 31. Introduction to the Whites

Mile 1749 – Dartmouth To Mile 1765 – Trapper John Shelter

Since we were still close to town, first thing in the morning we walked the relatively short distance back to the co-op to get some fresh fruit to go with breakfast. Then we were back on the trail.

Within the first couple of miles today, we could tell the trail is starting to change. The terrain is becoming more rough and the ascents are becoming steeper. All of the other hikers are talking about the whites. Rocket mentioned that today felt like a good introduction.

Reminder of the vastness of the forrest in the Northeast

We’ve met several college groups on the trail lately. It seems many schools in the area incorporate an outdoor experience, such as backpacking, in freshman orientation. This evening there was a group from Dartmouth staying at the shelter where we were camped. Rocket had fun talking with them about the trail and life. They even shared their burritos with us!
