Mile 1765 – Trapper John Shelter To Mile 1777 – Hexa Cuba Shelter
After about a half mile of walking this morning we were passing a road crossing when a car pulled into a nearby parking area. The driver asked us if we needed some snacks. Trail magic to start the day! We enjoyed some soda and fruit while we chatted with him and some other hikers that came by. He had bags full of snacks and we were happy to add a few things to our food bag.
The other day, a hiker was mentioning that being on the trail has restored her faith in humanity because of all the amazing people along the way expressing kindness. I thought about that comment and how different the trail is from the rest of the world as I actively encouraged Rocket to take candy from a stranger.
After that, we started on our main task for the day: climbing Smarts. It was a beautiful day and there were some great views from the fire tower on the top.

This evening we are camped near a shelter that was full with weekend hikers and another college freshman orientation group. Rocket loved talking with the college students and they even included her in their group photo.
