Mile 1915 – Full Goose Shelter To Mile 1923 – Stealth
We had perhaps the most difficult (and fun) mile of the trail to start the day. The Mahoosuc Notch is not really a trail. It is more of a giant boulder heap lodged between two cliffs. It requires significant climbing over, and sometimes under the boulders. The slow pace through this area meant that we would be covering less ground today, but we took our time and enjoyed the experience.

Conquering a challenge
Rocket had a significant advantage in the tight spaces, but required much creativity to go over the biggest obstacles. She loved the challenge which reminded her of the hours spent at Austin Bouldering Project.

Over or under?
It took us just under two hours to complete the mile section. This was immediately following by one of the longest and steepest climbs on the trail. Together, these made for a tiring and long day. Around dinner time we started looking for a spot to camp and eventually found a great place near a stream for the night. It was not as far as we were hoping to go today, but we are happy with what we accomplished and we are close enough to Andover to meet Brenda at our planned time tomorrow evening.
