Mile 922 – Delps Spring To Mile 942 – Stealth
We have been carrying extra water for the last few days, both because this is a somewhat dry stretch of trail and also because the water that is available is not suitable for drinking due to contamination dating back to the early 1900’s. We were also helped out by local volunteers who leave jugs of clean water at road crossings for thru hikers.

Climbing a tree
The trail through this area has been rerouted to skirt around a Superfund cleanup site where work is ongoing to remove the pollution. The previous route of the AT has been converted into an access road for the vehicles involved with the remediation effort. By tomorrow we should be past all of this and I am looking forward to it.

Trail rocks
The irony of the trail being rerouted for cleanup of a Superfund site is not lost on me and the boys. Crazy!

Having driven near it, the view is bleak, especially when contrasted with the visit to Maine.
