Mile 1047 – Cove Mountain Shelter To Mile 1069 – Boiling Springs
The trail passes right through the town of Boiling Springs and we aimed to be there by dinner time. We were able to keep up a fairly fast pace, alternating between open fields and short sections of woods all day.
Rain started just as we got to town so we rushed the last mile and stopped in at a pizza place for dinner just before the rain intensified. After finishing off a large pizza and some garlic bread, we prepared for the 20 minute walk to the camping area along the trail just outside of town. We put on our rain gear and ventured out into the storm with a pessimistic sounding “good luck” from someone waiting there to pick up a pizza.

In and out of fields all day
We have done enough night hiking now to be pretty comfortable with it. But in town, in the rain was an interesting experience. We got the tent setup in record time and crawled in for the night, happy to be dry and warm.

Really?
One note from earlier today. Someone had run a cable along the ground near one of the farms that we passed and positioned a trip hazzard warning sign along the trail. We laughed because for the last 200 miles the entire trail has basically been a trip hazzard.
You two are special!
