Mile 1140 – Pogo Memorial Shelter To Mile 1160 – Ed Garvey
The plan today was to get to the last shelter in Maryland with the intent of hiking into Harper’s Ferry in the morning. We had a beautiful day for hiking through this historic area. One highlight was a monument to George Washington within a nice park. We learned all we could about his life from the signs and exhibits posted along the way.

We have been camping alone for the last several weeks because we are pretty far behind the SOBO bubble. The solitude has been nice, but tonight we are thrilled to actually have other hikers at the shelter! One is even a southbound thru that we met a few days ago. Also, one of the weekend hikers there was very enthusiastic about building and maintaining a campfire. We stayed up late chatting around the fire; something we haven’t done in a while.
