Mile 1786 – Walnut Mountain Road To Mile 1796 – US 19E
We stopped for the day in the town of Roan Mountain after a relatively short hike. The snow is starting to melt some at lower elevations, but higher up we are still walking through deep drifts which is extremely tiring.
Tomorrow we have a big day planned climbing up into the Roan highlands. We don’t want to camp up there because of the low temperatures predicted for overnight, so we need to walk a fairly long way to cross the whole thing in one day. The shorter day today will hopefully allow us to recover a bit and rest up for that.
