Day 37. Titan Missile Museum

Mile 662 – Pistol Hill Rd.

This morning, Debora offered to drive Rocket and I to the Titan Missile Museum, which is nearby. They are also homeschool parents and thought This would be a good learning opportunity for Rocket. This was definitely not in our plan, but, we are slightly ahead of our scheduled end date. What better way to spend the extra time?

We got tickets for the noon tour and had a great time there. They have preserved the underground structure and grounds. The actual missile in the silo is one used for training and has never contained a warhead. The most interesting thing about the tour is when they reenact the process of receiving, decoding, and validating a launch order and then show the process in the control room that the crew would have used to initiate the launch.
