Mile 109.8 to Mile 119.7
Despite resupplying at Muir Trail Ranch, we decided to stop at VVR just for laundry and showers. We woke up at around 3 in the morning, and hiked ten miles to a junction. The full moon and the sun were both rising as we hiked. From the junction it was 1.5 miles off trail to a large lake, where we waited to be picked up by the ferry.

We were accompanied on the ferry by various PCT and JMT hikers going in both directions. The boat driver, named “Paint”, had been working there for decades. It was quite the experience to go straight from the wilderness to a luxury resort within the span of thirty minutes.

VVR had free camping for backpackers, and they provided showers and laundry. They had a lovely selection of loaner clothes consisting almost entirely of jorts. (Unfortunately we don’t have a photo of my dad wearing his pair)

The restaurant served immense portions of food, and we ate three meals during our stay. Although the food was good, there’s nothing like showering for the first time in ten days.
