Mile 345.8 – 356.2
We spent the morning hiking along Snow Mesa. If not for the mountains visible behind us, it would almost seem like your average field at sea level. We were hiking in a small group of other people who were also meaning to go into town today.

The shuttle arrived on time at 11:30, and we were given a nice history lesson of the area by the volunteer driver. The hiker center run by the local church was amazing. There was fresh water, coffee, laundry service, multiple hiker boxes, shuttles, and a spot to recharge devices. It was walkable from the RV park where we could pitch a tent, shower, and do laundry.

Walking around town it seemed like every other resident was a Texan. The population in Lake City, it turns out, is ten times larger in the summer than in the winter, due to the number of seasonal rv’ers and second house owners. We stopped at a Texas themed restaurant and I had a hefty serving of chicken fried steak; for dinner we had wings from a food truck and ice cream from a local soda shop.
