Day 10. Cabin

Mile 1535.2 – North Mt Wilcox Shelter To Mile 1549.2 – Upper Goose Pond Cabin

We were up early this morning and on the trail two hours before our normal start time. The goal was to have as much time as possible at our destination in the evening.

About mid-day we found a stand set up near a road crossing. Some kids that live on a local farm keep it stocked with snacks and drinks and charge about a dollar each on the honor system. Perfect spot for lunch!

The National Park Service maintains a cabin in the area for hikers, and that was our destination today. We had to rush a little to get there before dark. When I mentioned to Rocket that she might be able to swim there, her pace doubled. She jumped in the pond with her clothes on as soon as we arrived.

We were chased inside by a brief storm so we filled the time with a game by flashlight.

Because we are hiking more slowly than most of the folks around us, we tend to overlap with them for just a day or two. But, because most of the NOBO hikers took a day off in Great Barrington while we kept moving, we were able to reconnect with some friends from earlier on the trail. Rocket loved talking with them about everything that had happened since we first met and they were super encouraging.
