Mile 1584 – Mark Noepel Shelter To Mile 1595 – Sherman Brook
After a night of steady rain there was a break around 7 am, so we packed up and started the short walk up to the peak of Greylock, stopping on the way for breakfast which consisted of doughnuts we packed in yesterday.

As we ascended, the fog grew thicker and we knew there would be no grand view at the top. I was surprised that Rocket didn’t care. She was walking in a cloud! What could be more amazing than that?

A bit foggy
Mt. Greylock is accessible by road and there is a fancy lodge at the top. Instead of a view, we settled for some time out of the rain and some hot food.

A bit dirty after the walk down
Our walk down took us through another town where we stopped briefly to resupply. The sun even cane out for a couple of hours.

We’ve been having trouble getting enough calories for Rocket to sustain all of this activity so we are trying to take advantage of every opportunity to get more food. Most long distance hikers experience “hiker hunger” at some point because they maintain a calorie defecit on trail to save pack weight, and make up the difference by eating extra while in town. We are trying to avoid this situation with Rocket, so with this resupply we are increasing the amount of food we are planning per day for her.
Love the cloud walk
