Day 19. Stratton Mountain

Mile 1631 – Storey Spring Shelter To Mile 1646 – William Douglas Shelter

We are on a schedule this week to make it to Manchester Center by Friday for our first zero. We were both feeling optimistic this morning so we decided to try to get closer to town today in order to have a shorter hike to town on Friday. The day began with our biggest climb yet: Stratton Mountain. It was a beautiful morning and we were hoping for a clear view.

In the tower

We ate lunch at the top in the sun! From the tower we could see the mountains that we had been walking through for the last week and the area we were heading toward next. It was fun to try to identify the peaks we had crossed over. They looked so far away.

Looking back to where we came from

The long, but enjoyable walk down took us past a big pond and we had some time for a little swimming. Then, a relaxing evening with a camp fire and some hikers that we’ve been overlapping with.

Pause for a quick swim

Relaxing at the end of the day

As we go to bed we are excited for tomorrow and our first zero.
