Day 43. The Wildcats

Mile 1872 – Pinkham Notch To Mile 1885 – Imp Shelter

We ate breakfast at the lodge this morning and bought a few supplies at the little store there to get us through to our next resupply. During breakfast we were chatting with some weekend hikers who were also staying the lodge about our plans for the day. They were pretty familiar with the area and all thought our plan was overly ambitious because it involved going over a total of seven peaks.

We were confident we could do it based on our experience in the Presidentials, so we took their advice seriously, but decided to stick with our plan. It was a tough hike, but we made it across successfully. We are slowly getting better at knowing when to ignore hype and negativity.

We arrived at the shelter just as the sun was setting and we ended up talking with other hikers for quite a while after dark. Most of the hikers we know are northbound and as we are exiting the Whites they are starting to feel that the end of their hike is near. This realization is prompting a lot of introspection and leads to some meaningful conversations.
