Mile 828 – Wawayanda Shelter To Mile 845 – Unionville
The trail led us out of the rolling hills of the last couple of days, into farm country. Most of today was spent walking along winding country roads and through fields.

Trail leading through fields today
Rocket has not been close to a cow before, so she was a little worried the first time there were several of them near the trail. She was amused that they just stared at us as we walked by, without really seeming to care that we were there. So different from every other large animal we have encountered on the trail.

Rocket is apprehensive about approaching the cows
We ended the day in Unionville which has a general store that we are using to resupply for the next couple of days. The town allows hikers to camp in the park next to the town office, so we pitched our tent there after eating dinner in the only restraunt. The park has a playground which Rocket played on until dark. Our plan is to stop at the general store in the morning for breakfast and to resupply.
Actually in preschool she saw longhorns (not quite so close) which the guide told us were “the smartest of all the cows” and when she was younger she saw Holsteins with one of her uncles. None looked like this
