Day 165. Clear Trails

Mile 1457 – Fullhardt Knob Shelter To Mile 1537 – Cove Mountain Shelter

Today the trail took us parallel to the Blue Ridge Parkway for most of the afternoon, crossing it fairly often. We walked past about a half dozen overlooks along the parkway that were each deserted. We had fun stopping at each one and enjoying the view with no one else around.

One of the reasons we originally skipped past this section was because of the trees blocking the trail after the ice storm. We’ve been pleasantly surprised at the progress that has been made since then to clear them. Here is an example of an area that would have been completely blocked by several trees. We can see that volunteers have recently cut a path through the trees.
