Day 12. Flagstaff

Mile 191 – Stealth To Mile 4.7 (passage 33) Flagstaff

We used the urban alternate which goes right through town

We planned yesterday to try and get to town before noon, meaning we had to start walking at five. Nothing interesting happened for a few hours, we just walked in the dark until 7. A quick breakfast of mini donuts, pop tarts, and banana oatmeal gave us the motivation to keep walking in the cold. We had Culver’s waiting for us.

Urban trail system

As we approached Flagstaff, the trails became part of the Flagstaff Urban Trail System, leading us into a large park with bathrooms and water. We ran across a local trail Angel walking his three dogs and a guy who had thru-hiked the AZT along with nearly every other north American trail. Over 26,000 miles in total. We chatted for a bit, then walked to Culver’s for sandwiches, fries, and frozen custard. We spent the rest of the afternoon resupplying at Walmart, then went back to the hotel to rest and eat dinner. Mom chatted with us for a bit to catch us up on what’s going on in lago vista. The beds were amazing.

  1. Trail Angel at 26,000 miles 😮, Culver’s, and a memorial to the AZT founder. Perhaps the highlight was the fresh beds?
