Getting to the Trail

Unlike the JMT, no permits are required for the Colorado Trail. Also, we are not sending any food boxes in advance. So, all we need to do is show up at the starting point. We’re going southbound so that means we need to get to Denver.

Starting near a major city definitely makes logistics easier. We had a morning flight from Austin to Denver and then took the train to Union Station downtown. From there we walked over to REI to grab a fuel canister.

After that, two more trains brought us out to Littleton, which is about nine miles from the start of the trail.

We walked about 15 minutes to a Panera nearby for lunch and then used Lyft from there to the trailhead.

Let’s go!
