Day 6. Breckenridge

Mile 84.2 – 103.9

Looking down over Breckenridge

Today was our first resupply on the Colorado Trail. We hiked several miles in a hail storm in order to reach a major road crossing by around noon, and took a (free!) bus into Breckenridge. We stopped to shower at a rec center first, and the staff there seemed mildly shocked that we wanted to use the showers. Unfortunately, stopping at the showers first meant wearing our rain gear around town until we could get to a laundromat. We had a nice chat with two other thru hikers while doing our laundry, then headed to the nearest restaurant and ordered some very large portions of food. I ignored my dad’s suggestion to go easy on the pasta and ended up having to loosen my waist belt that evening to get my backpack to fit.

Surprisingly, our last stop in town was the actual resupply. We took yet another bus to a grocery store and refilled our food bags in the parking lot outside. We took our fourth and final bus back to the trailhead, and finished our day with a steep climb during sunset. Overall, we spent about six hours in town, and still hiked a full day on-trail.
