Day 24. Grateful

Mile 437.8 – 460.8

We’re thankful to be at this point in our hike. With a trail that seems to want to twist an ankle or cause a fall, and the constant threat of wildfire, we’re aware that completing a thru hike requires a lot – that is not in our control – to go right.

It is at this point so close to the end that I start feeling like we can finish regardless of what might happen. Injury? Illness? Surely I could limp to the end from here if needed! Seriously, though, we are grateful that things have been pretty smooth.

The trail is a bit rocky in places

Once again, thank you to Brenda for supporting these shenanigans! Also, thanks to everyone who follows along. We are encouraged by the comments and supportive messages that we receive along the way. And, especially, thank you to Rocket for being such a positive hiking partner. It was an honor and a privilege to be able to do this with you.

Wildfire near the trail

For our last planned night on the trail we celebrated by eating all the extra food left in our food bags. With unlimited water thanks to a nearby lake, and plenty of fuel, it was quite a feast.
